(More customer reviews)I have used the Shifter ZR3 for over 3 years (install Feb 2004) and I have found that it works very well. I drive about 25,000 miles annually and most jurisdictions that I travel through have given up radar and gone to laser. The ZR3 gives me the peace of mind that I can check my speed and, if necessary, adjust my speed before allowing myself to be clocked. For me, it has totally eliminated the fear of laser gun speed traps. The ZR3 is well made with good instructions and a straight forward installation employing plug in modules, but I suspect most will opt for professional installation as fabricating brackets and tying into the computerized electrical systems of a modern car can be intimidating. False alarms are rare but some newer BMWs and some store fronts will set it off. In summary, I look at the ZR3 as an indispensable driving aid and my second ZR3 was installed on my wife's new car by the third day of ownership.

(More customer reviews)For the top of the line Cobra Model, I was definitely disappointed with the 9700. It's Compass comes in handy and the intellimute works well to kill off unwanted beeps and voice alerts from garage openers and car keys. However, as a radar detector, it is only mediocre at best. Unlike other reviews, my experience with this device has been somewhat positive. It DOES pick up signals but perhaps too late. POP (instant on radar) alerts are picked up only when your car gets hit by one, and by that time your speed has already been clocked so what's the point? Normal, always on radar such as K and X bands get picked up AT MOST 1/2 mile away. Most of the time though it ends up being 1/4 mile maybe less. It has saved me a couple times but I wouldn't buy this device again if i had the chance.

(More customer reviews)Every store that sells this seems to charge different amounts (from $17 and up) and different shipping costs (from $4 to $14), so if you must buy it, shop around.But I suggest you not buy it and wait until something better comes along.Sure, it beeps and the light flashes, but it does this ALL OVER THE PLACE.Either the CIAis monitoring my activities in every room of my house and where I work, or this thing can't discern between the myriad waves that are apparently traveling through the air everywhere.It beeps by light switches.It beeps by windows.It beeps near computers.It beeps near TVs.It beeps at solid walls.It beeps in the middle of rooms.If it detects and alerts you to everything, how can you tell if one of the alerts is actually a camera?Well, you can't.

First time it went off the cop was 2 feet from me,maybe he had just turned on his radar.I still need to read the directions to read the codes but it has gone off when I have seen someone pulled over but yesterday it went off about 2 second before the cop was in site hiding. It weighs about nothing and looks cheap. Has no real options other than volume and city or highway. After that you just have to hope.

Wide Detection
The KAT600 provides distinct visual and audible alerts to warn you of the presence of X, K, and all kinds of Ka Band radar guns in the front and rear of you. It also provides 360 degree laser detection with adaptive laser tracking (ALT) for better laser performance. Stay alert with a 3.4 mile radar detection range for radar and 2.5 miles for laser.
Integrated Laser Scrambler Disables Police LIDAR
Lidar sends out laser pulses and measures how long it takes to hit your car and come back. From the speed of light it can determine your range. It sends out several more pulses and calculates your speed from the change in distance over time. The KAT-600 transmits pulses electronically timed at 100 feet apart. This only allows the Lidar to see up to 100 feet so it is unable to calculate your speed.
VG-2 Immunity
VG-2 are devices police use to detect radar detectors. This model provides the benefit of 'undetectability' by alerting you to the presence of VG-2 signals.
Advanced Micro-Scan
Scans the radar bands 2-4 times faster than as any other detector. This allows Rocky Mountain devices to pick up the new P.O.P. radar that no one else can.
Smart-Scan
When Rocky Mountain devices detect radar in one scan, they repeat that scan, instead of completing programmed scans and returning. This means they detect quicker with less false alarms than any other detector.
Safety Alert and Safety Warning System
The KAT600 unit incorporates the Safety Alerts (SA) and Safety Warning Systems (SWS) detection. This safety feature warns you of the presence of potential road hazards by detecting signals from safety transmitting devices.
City Mode
The false-alert are often caused in urban areas by automatic door openers and alarm systems. The KAT600 features a City mode, in which the X band is not detected and K/Ka band sensitivity is lowered.

Review it carefully for your area.This is user-submitted content, so anything that any user adds get added to the file.The bulk of the contents in my area are speed traps and school zones (along with some incorrect and correct red light cameras).The speed traps are all over the place. The GPS goes off CONSTANTLY with speed traps.It goes off so much that I don't even really "hear it" any more.When the alert is so frequent that it goes off all the time, every time you drive, it defeats the purpose.I've lived here for 15 years and while I have no doubt that at one time a police officer probably sat at all of the so called speed trap locations, the fact that that location is a frequent speed trap location is a joke.What happens is one customer saw a cop there one time and submitted it to the site.Suddenly that becomes a "speed trap?"I don't think so.All I can say is review their website map yourself for your area before you buy and see all the massive, ridiculous quantity of locations in the file.Decide for yourself whether you want to be subjected to all of those alerts all the time.
