Escort ZR3 Laser Shifters LIDAR Laser Detector Defense System Review

Escort ZR3 Laser Shifters LIDAR Laser Detector Defense System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used the Shifter ZR3 for over 3 years (install Feb 2004) and I have found that it works very well. I drive about 25,000 miles annually and most jurisdictions that I travel through have given up radar and gone to laser. The ZR3 gives me the peace of mind that I can check my speed and, if necessary, adjust my speed before allowing myself to be clocked. For me, it has totally eliminated the fear of laser gun speed traps. The ZR3 is well made with good instructions and a straight forward installation employing plug in modules, but I suspect most will opt for professional installation as fabricating brackets and tying into the computerized electrical systems of a modern car can be intimidating. False alarms are rare but some newer BMWs and some store fronts will set it off. In summary, I look at the ZR3 as an indispensable driving aid and my second ZR3 was installed on my wife's new car by the third day of ownership.

Whistler XTR690 - High Performance Radar/Laser Detector with LCD Text Display Review

Whistler XTR690 - High Performance Radar/Laser Detector with LCD Text Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first Radar detector. I researched first before buying and could not afford Beltronics. Moreover I do not see point in buying those. Read on as to why.
Beltronics can detect radar from upto 4 miles. It's practically a useless range. Cops are smart. They do not target your car or any area if it's straight. They scan you from the opposite lane when you are driving or on the blind turns. They do not keep the trigger pressed. They use their gun when they are sure that within seconds they can get reading. So 4 miles range is useless. What you need is a warning when someone's targeting you. Whistler does this job perfectly. It will even catch any radar that's facing away from you just in time for you to slow down. Don't get caught in POP and Laser no unit can save you from these. No one can save you from cop who's pacing with you either so be careful even after you buy any radar detector.

About this unit, It's quick, less false alarms. Auto-quiet feature is excellent. My whistler is always on auto-quiet. Safety warnings are good to know.

I recommend you buy this item if you exceed speed limit by 15mph or more. You will be amazed how many times a car gets tagged on the long drive and how cops hide.

Whistler PRO-78 Laser-Radar Detector with Real Voice Alerts, POP Mode Detection, INTELLICORD ready Review

Whistler PRO-78 Laser-Radar Detector with Real Voice Alerts, POP Mode Detection, INTELLICORD ready
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When the Laser Alert "goes off," have your Nitroglycerin pills available. The instructions say that no matter what the volume or other settings are set to, the Laser Alert will go off at maximum volume. It's loud.

The blue LEDs are visible in darkness and in sunlight, except if you're wearing Blue-Blocker sunglasses. The yellow tint of the glasses totally obliterates the blue display, even if turned up to full brightness. Therefore, I'm in the process of learning how to recognize the different alarms by audio.

There are a couple of extra, bright, decorative [blue] LEDs on top of the unit that can be set to either stay on solidly, or blink only when there's any type warning. They don't convey any useful information, but they might be turned on in case of mobile fiesta. The assorted dim settings don't affect these two LEDs, so if they're active, they're at full brightness. But they can be turned completely off, such as after the party ends.

The Dark setting is not totally dark. The design strategy is that in the Dark mode, the display will go totally dark during an alert, and stay dark for an extra 20 seconds.I find that doesn't completely address the concern of not offending policemen for having a detector in my car.At night, I believe a policeman (or other cars) passing will see the dim blue LEDs on top of the dashboard.I'm concerned that if a policeman sees the detector, he won't give me the benefit of a few mphs that I might have had if I didn't have the detector. And I'm not interested in non-policemen seeing that I have a detector, either.

There is also a Dim mode for nighttime driving -- brighter than Dark, and stays lit regardless of alert.

There are at least three different settings for the X-band sensitivity.I have the sensitivity mildly reduced, and have few false alerts while driving in town, and I'm learning where they are after a while so as not to cause concern. If you're sure there are no X-band radar guns on your trail, the X-band can be completely disabled.

Sorry I can't address the question of sensitivity -- how much time the detector gives you to hit the breaks before the smokey's radar gun measures your speed, but reviews on the internet say the price-to-performance ratio of the Whistler is almost as good as detectors over twice the price.http://www.laserveil.com/whistler/pro-78/xtr-690/

I have yet to see a message, such as, "Construction Ahead" scrolling across my Pro-78's display. I'm pretty sure this detector can do that.

A female voice announces the type of radar alert, followed by beeps that get faster as the signal gets closer, and the visual display reads signal strength from one to nine, to help determine whether they're getting closer or not.At "Nine," the beeping goes "Shave And A HairCut Shave And A HairCut..."

I've recently taken to using the AutoQuiet mode, where the alarm partially drops in volume a few seconds after it goes off. That's a good thing.

I've been meaning to get some replacement suction cups for the windshield mount. They're small, and I assume their lifetime is limited.Whistler sells replacements for some exorbitant price, but I think the Crafts department of Walmart can help.I usually put the detector under the passenger's seat when I'm done, and the last time both suction cups fell off, so I found when I went to go retrieve it.That never happened before.I'm thinking the plastic is starting to shrink.

I'm thinking of making a log of alerts for my semi-weekly 4-hour trip, to help me remember where the "false" alerts always go off, and to help me realize if an unexpected alert occurs. Most of the alerts are from temporary traffic signs (the ones with big orange chassis and light-bulb lettering), some of which continue to emit microwaves, even if they're dark with their signage turned off.I found one with a laser, which I assumed was there just to rattle my teeth -- I don't think it has a camera or anything. At least, no one has contacted me.After going past it a few times, I don't worry about it anymore, or any signs, except to minimize collisions with fellow vehicles. It's important to remember that construction workers never have a nice day, but sometimes those signs are out for months on end with no workers anywhere, and state unreasonable limits for the conditions. At least, first check for humans before going too far over a Construction Zone limit.

Finally, I recommend my approach: Use the detector to help learn about enforcement activities, not to evade them. And when you're hit with a radar gun, you'll be proud that you weren't driving in a dangerous manner and that you didn't have to hit the breaks or anything which would have demonstrated you have a guilty conscience.

Cobra XRS-9330 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector Review

Cobra XRS-9330 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
it's a nice radar detector and works 100% of the time but it could really use a mute button on the part where it plugs in the car because some times it just gets a little annoying when its beeping constantly, and you have to reach all the way up to the windshield to mute it.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Cobra XRS-9330 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector

Product Description:
Whether you commute to work or school on the freeway, drive for a living, or just like to go on an occasional recreational trip, the Cobra XRS-9330 Radar/Laser Detector is an invaluable addition to your motor vehicle. Designed for the convenience of 24-hour use, the XRS-9330 has an extra bright digital display that can be dimmed for nighttime driving. Measuring 4.40 x 2.70 x 1.30 inches and weighing just 4.8 ounces, the XRS-9330 can be set just about anywhere within easy view when you're driving, and then stored in your glove compartment when you're parked.
The XRS-9330 detects six different radar signals, including the Ku wavelength band that is widely used in Europe and that has been recently approved for use in the United States. In addition, the XRS-9330 is completely invisible to the VG-2 and Spectre radar detector detectors while it alerts you if either the VG-2 or the Spectre is in use in your area.
The XRS-9330 is also sensitive to four different laser signals, and with its LaserEye feature giving you a 360-degree detection range, you'll always be able to tell if you're driving through a surveillance area. And perhaps most importantly, for your own safety and the safety of other drivers sharing the road with you, the XRS-9330 detects two emergency alert systems to give you advance warning of road hazards, keeping you prepared when emergency vehicles are nearby. In addition to detecting the Safety alert system, the XRS-9330, like most of Cobra's Radar/Laser detectors, offers Cobra's exclusive feature of detecting the presence of the Strobe alert system, which emergency crews use to control traffic signals.
So get the Cobra XRS-9330 Radar/Laser Detector for your car or truck, and you'll be prepared for just about anything when you're behind the wheel.
Note: Radar detectors can be used without restriction in well over 40 states, but restrictions apply in a few states. Please check with your state department of motor vehicles or highway patrol if you have questions about whether there are restrictions in your area.
What's in the Box
XRS 9330 radar/laser detector, windshield bracket, straight power cord, hook and loop fasteners, and owner's manual.

Rocky Mountain Radar RMR-C475 Radar and Laser Detector and Scrambler (Grey) Review

Rocky Mountain Radar RMR-C475 Radar and Laser Detector and Scrambler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I looked through tons of reviews and I have become convinced that the Rocky Mountain Radar Detectors are the best for the money. The only complaint on the other Rocky Mountain detectors that bothered me was that they go through a beeping cycle every time you turn the car on. That seems annoying.

I tried this one before there were any reviews on it and it has an option to turn that off. Just turn off the "TEST MODE" in the options and it doesn't beep when you turn it on. I never know that it is there until it spots a cop's radar. Sometimes it goes off around department store entrances, but other than that it works great and it has saved me from getting tickets just in the last few weeks.

I bought another one or my wife's minivan and she loves it too.

Product Description:
Rocky Mountain's RMR-C475 alerts you to all radar bands, and offers 360-degree laser detection. It also provides the benefit of undetectability by alerting you to the presence of VG-2 and VG-3 signals, aka "radar detector detectors," and incorporates Safety Alert and Safety Warning System detection. Even better? An on-board radar/laser scrambler for some real peace of mind.

Powerful detection with integrated radar/laser scrambling. Click to enlarge.
Radar/Laser Detector
The RMR-C475 gives you 360-degree detection of all Radar bands (X, K, Ka, SuperWide, Pulse, Instant-On) and all Laser Speed Devices (Pro-Laser, LTI, Laser-Lite, and Stalker). Adaptive laser tracking (ALT) ensures better laser performance.
Integrated Radar/Laser Scrambler
In addition to detection, The RMR-C475 will scramble all radar and Lidar guns.

    Laser Scrambler
Lidar sends out laser pulses and measures how long it takes to hit your car and come back. From the speed of light it can determine your range. It sends out several more pulses and calculates your speed from the change in distance over time. The RMR-C475 transmits pulses electronically timed at 100 feet apart. This only allows the Lidar to see up to 100 feet so it is unable to calculate your speed.

    Radar Scrambler
It works on all police radar bands (X, K, Ka, super wide). Inside the scrambler are 3 elements: an FM chirp generator, a mixer diode and a dual ridge wave-guide antenna. When the scrambler is hit by a signal it runs it through the mixer, adding the FM chirp to mix up the signal and using the antenna, reflect back this new signal to the radar gun. The radar gun's computer can't recognize the new signal; it gets confused and won't display a reading on the gun, leaving a blank screen.

Improved 3-suction-cup mount for windshield attachment.
Includes coiled vehicle power cord.
Visual and Voice Alert
Voice Alert with Intelli-Voice voice synthesis keeps you aware while you keep your eyes on the road. Plus it's bilingual--select between English/Spanish.
The blue backlit Dot Matrix LCD makes for easy reading of visual alerts.
Advanced Micro-Scan
Scans the radar bands 2-4 times faster than as any other detector. This allows Rocky Mountain devices to pick up the new P.O.P. radar that no one else can.
Smart-Scan
When Rocky Mountain devices detect radar in one scan, they repeat that scan, instead of completing programmed scans and returning. This means they detect quicker with less false alarms than any other detector.
VG-2 and VG-3 Immunity
VG-2 and VG-3 are devices police use to detect radar detectors. This model provides the benefit of 'undetectability' by alerting you to the presence of VG-2 and VG-3 signals.
Safety Alert and Safety Warning System
The RMR-C475 unit incorporates the Safety Alerts (SA) and Safety Warning Systems (SWS) detection. This safety feature warns you of the presence of potential road hazards by detecting signals from safety transmitting devices.
City Mode
The false-alert are often caused in urban areas by automatic door openers and alarm systems. The RMR-8RD features a City mode, in which the X band is not detected and K/Ka band sensitivity is lowered.
What's in the Box
RMR-C475 Unit, Windshield Bracket, Power Cord, User's Manual
